Thanks again CharlesThis is getting more and more frustrating;. Agree file now removed. I have used this in the past for loading company specific formatting 'Custom Add-Ins'. This is where I am having the problem. I reset the templates folder, check it by restarting Word and all OK.Close Word and restart. The new file location has not stuck so a new default Normal.dotm has been recreated!!

Very annoying and frustrating. They are as you can see. This is set to a folder under My Documents but doesn't show in the File/New screenAlmost without exception Add-In templates are not ever used as document templates. Unless you are using your Add-Ins as document templates (basing documents on them) the Startup folder should not be in the Workgroup Templates (or User Templates) Folder.Putting it there invites users to create new documents based on your Add-In templates.Your Custom Office Templates folder (4) is set to a separate folder in your Documents folder? This is the default, at least with Word 2013. When you use File New and click on the 'Custom' button it should show your Workgroup Templates Folder and your CustomOffice Templates Folder.

On my system, workgroup templates are in the folder 'Shared Templates.' The screenshot is from Word 2013 but I expect that Word 2016 is similar.
